A trip to Rumney - Wednesday, Aug 6, 2009

P1000805 Definitely not a good beach day today!!  Pouring cats and dogs.  We rented another car and caravaned up after picking up lobster rolls and pie for our picnic lunch with Roger and June.  Even in the rain the mountain was gorgeous and peaceful as we sat and watched hummingbirds, goldfinches, and woodpeckers from the big bay window.  Roger looked great!! He is still on continuous oxygen, but has gained some weight.  We talked about the "old days" and family members and June got out some picture albums of when we were all there (including Sam, Chloe, Pam, and Nami) when John was a babe in arms.  Dallas the black lab of course was very happy to see us.  Roger had the large round striped beach rock we sent him last Christmas (per his request about what we could bring him on our next visit) sitting on the window ledge.  Rog then took us out to the sugar house and explained how maple syrup was made and presented us with two large jars (one for Ron, one for Robin) - Yum!!  After a fond farewell we trekked back home to the beach house and had Parras Pizza and Greek salads for dinner.  Some of us then watched International ghost hunters (great TV viewing right before bed).  We are still hoping for some sunshine!!  Almost forgot, on the way back down from the mountain Bill and I stopped for coffee at the take-out at Johnson's Dairy Bar in Northwood (a childhood great ice cream stop).  Of course we decided to get a small homemade ice cream - I have to remember to order kiddie size if you really mean small - it was a huge "small dish," about 3 scoops worth - but delic ice cream still!
